Advance in Scouting by Earning Merit Badges at the DeVos Learning Center

Are you a young adventurer seeking to embrace the values of responsibility, community, and leadership? Join with other Scouts at the DeVos Learning Center at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum to complete core requirements for citizenship badges that will allow you to earn the rank of Eagle Scout or become an active citizen.

As the only Eagle Scout to serve as president, the lessons that Gerald Ford learned during his youth in scouting—self-discipline, teamwork, and moral and patriotic values—would define his life of public service.

Today, these lessons are brought to life through Ford’s remarkable career in programs only offered at the DeVos Learning Center. Join us for:

  • ** REGISTRATION CLOSED ** September 21, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Citizenship and the Nation (Scouting America). Make progress toward becoming an Eagle Scout by earning this badge in one of Michigan’s premier civic spaces. Scouts will learn about the foundations of American government, including the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, and the three branches of government—all exemplified by President Ford’s lifetime of public service. Registration is closed. If your Scout would like to participate, contact Don at dcooper@38foundation.org to make arrangements.

  • ** WAITLIST ONLY ** November 16, 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.: Citizenship and the Nation (Scouting America). Make progress toward becoming an Eagle Scout by earning this badge in one of Michigan’s premier civic spaces. Scouts will learn about the foundations of American Government, including the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, and the three branches of government—all exemplified by President Ford’s lifetime of public service. This session is currently full. Scouts who register will be placed on a wait list and offered seats on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Discover Betty Ford (Girl Scouts). Date TBD. Pre-register to be among the first Scouts to encounter and be inspired by the life and legacy of First Lady Betty Ford. Developed in partnership with Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore, Scouts will learn about Mrs'. Ford’s youth in Grand Rapids, the role of the First Lady, and Mrs. Ford’s championship for equal rights and women’s health to become an advocate and champion for women just like she was. This program will be open to Girl Scouts of all ages, and participants will earn a special patch. Currently accepting pre-registrations for when program dates are announced.
