Walking Tours

Explore Jerry and Betty Ford’s Grand Rapids

A Special 90-minute walking tour to encounter the people and places that shaped the Fords.

Let Jerry and Betty Ford guide you through the city that they both called home. Beginning and ending at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, this two-mile, 90-minute walk mixes places and experiences from the Fords’ lives with stories about their impact here in Grand Rapids and nationally.

Through this tour you will hear often untold stories of their formative years, and encounter people and moments that would shape the Fords’ public service later in their lives. You will learn about how, as President, Ford worked to heal the nation’s wounds—not only through working to restore trust in government and concluding the Vietnam War, but also for indigenous and minority populations. And you will have the opportunity to reflect on their efforts in their post-presidential years to live their lives for others.

This tour is the perfect complement to a visit to the Museum or a program at the DeVos Learning Center.

Offered free of charge and without appointment on Saturdays at 10:10 a.m. from Labor Day through Halloween, and by appointment for groups.
