Former Vice President Dick Cheney, the US Army Chorus, Doug DeVos, and the Ford Family celebrate the DeVos Learning Center Grand Opening
Wow – I am still feeling the joy from our Grand Opening celebration! On Tuesday, June 7th, the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum re-opened and we welcomed the addition of the brand new DeVos Learning Center. On hand for this momentous day were Vice President Dick Cheney, U. S. Archivist David Ferriero, Youth Director for Constituting America and author Ms. Juliette Turner, Gerald Ford Foundation Chairman Red Cavaney, Doug DeVos, Ford family members, and the U.S. Army Chorus, amongst other distinguished guests.
Perhaps the guests we were most excited about, though, were the nearly 1,000 students from our neighboring school districts! Students, teachers, and parents came from Gerald R. Ford Academic Center, West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science, Coopersville Area Schools, New Branches Charter Academy, and Murray Lake Elementary in Lowell. We were also grateful to have student volunteers from both Michigan Challenge Academy and the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps. Our opening ceremony speakers reminded us all about the outstanding lessons of character taught to us by President Gerald R. Ford and the importance of teaching history so that students may learn from the past to affect the future. The ceremony concluded with the audience giving a standing ovation to all of the students in attendance.
Afterward, students were invited to tour the brand new Museum exhibits as well as continue the celebration in the park. All were treated to great music, activities, and yummy treats and I think it’s safe to say everyone had a ball. On behalf of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Foundation, I can say that we are all so excited to welcome students to explore, learn, and grow with us at the NEW Gerald Ford Museum and DeVos Learning Center!
